Tecnu works to remove poison ivy, oak and sumac oils. Simply apply Tecnu directly onto dry skin, rub vigorously for two minutes, and then rinse with water or wipe off with a paper towel or cloth. Use Tecnu within 8 hours after exposure to poison oak, ivy or sumac to remove the rash-causing urushiol oil from skin before the rash begins. If a poison ivy or oak plant rash has started, washing with Tecnu can help to remove any noxious oil on the skin. This allows the natural healing process to begin without the possible spreading of poison ivy or oak (aka, re-contamination). Poison oak and ivy oil (urushiol) can also spread from contaminated shoes, clothing, gloves, pets and tools. The rash-causing urushiol does not evaporate, so it can, therefore, remain on these items for months or even years at a time. Use Tecnu Original to wash off the oil to help avoid a poison ivy or oak rash from secondary contact. Tecnu also removes skunk odor, pitch and sap from skin, grime, grease and cable gel. For laundering, Tecnu can be applied directly to gear or clothing and then washed in a normal fashion. It is recommended that you do a small patch test on the clothing before using on entire article.

Poison Ivy
I was introduced to TecNu at least 15 years ago. I had poison ivy everywhere on my upper body. It was so bad I had to wear gloves just to be able to go to work. My boyfriend found this through the internet. From then on I have kept a bottle on hand. If I even think I’ve come into contact with poison ivy I was my whole body in it. I never want to go through that again and with TecNu I’m guaranteed never to have to suffer. God Bless the people who made this product.

This stuff, despite its high price, works for breaking down the damaging poison ivy (poison oak etc) Urushiol oil. You can even apply it on arms and legs or wherever, before heading off into potentially infested areas and it will break down the oil before it can do damage to your skin. If you suspect contact, rub some on the affected areas and leave it on for a few minutes to work. Then you can rinse or shower it off. The product contains oils too, so it will feel a bit oily after using it.
Definitely worth the expense! NO ONE is immune to Urushiol, eventually a person’s tolerance for it breaks down and welcome to poison ivy infection!

Skunk wash!
We have used this for years for poison ivy. It’s a keeper! But this time it was for the dog. She tangled with a skunk and tecnu worked on that! Thank God!

Tecnu Original Outdoor Skin Cleanser
We love living in the country with lots of trees, how ever. with that comes poison ivy and insects of many kinds. A good wash with Tecnu will relieve most itching and discomfort of bites and remove the oil from the poison ivy. Their lotion is a good follow up after the shower. We depend on Tecnu while we’re working outdoors.
