The HP 12C Financial Calculator features built-in financial functions and statistics, uses Reverse Polish Notation (RPN), more than 120 built-in functions, including register-based cash-flow analysis, 10-character, 1-line LCD display, Device measures 5.0 x 0.6 x 3.1 inches (WxHxD).It has 10-character, 1-line LCD display. If you bought yourself a financial calculator during the 1980s, chances are it was this bad boy. Nothing has changed since its introduction–it still uses Reverse Polish Notation (RPN), is easy and versatile in programming, and has a thin, sturdy casing. Certainly, there’s been newer, fancier calculators introduced since, but there’s something to be said for the quality of classics. The HP 12C’s functions include all the basics–such as calculating APR, NPV, and IRR–and statistics are a snap. For students new to financial calculators, this is an excellent place to start. For the most part, the manual reads like a minitextbook, walking you through sample problems and situations followed by graphs and tables demonstrating the technique–and you can even check your results. The section on creating programs does seem to be written for the technically ignorant, addressing in detail how you could possibly benefit from using programs, but it’ll still help you get the job done.In general, it’s a bit slower than newer models, just like last year’s computer isn’t as speedy as today’s new release. On the plus side, it’s just 3 by 5 inches and slips easily into a pocket. The bottom is printed with a few little cheat notes for common functions, which is nice for quick reference. The HP 12C’s one-year warranty and available tech-support line offer reassurance this little workhorse will continue to be an industry standard for years to come. –Jill Lightner

Buy this, not the regular 12C
I used my original 12C until the feet dropped off. Six months ago I bought one Platinum and one regular 12C from HP. The regular 12C was so bad I threw it in the trash and bought this Platinum. The number keys on the regular did not contact and register the number even though it would click; this happened about one every six numbers, a frustrating disaster. But the Platinum is rock solid. So it must be a manufacturing difference. My Platinum says made in Philippines and the regular in China. Avoid the regular at all cost. And I like the backspace key on this Platinum.

    RPN is back
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I lost my HP-11 a few years ago in Hurricane Harvey. I tried using an app on my phone for a HP-15 but just wasn’t happy with the tactile feel of the keys. The HP-12 doesn’t do all the things I need as an engineer, but for many of my Project Management tasks the HP-12 works great. I’m glad I made the purchase.

When is HP going to bring back a replacement for the HP-15? I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

The best business and personal calculator!
Once you get used to RPN, you won’t want to go back to a conventional calculator. The finance functions are great for my business and for my personal finances.

    An improvement on a classic.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was a Christmas gift for a friend who is studying Accounting. I am so glad you still make the 12C, I like it so much more than the TI model her school recommended. And I like the flexibility of the Platinum model, where you can switch back and forth between RPN and Algebraic.

    Best Calculator
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the 12C in my career and personal use since it was brought out in the 1980’s and there is no better financial calculator out there. I have tried so many to check them out, but they all fail in ease of use, accuracy, and available functions.

Same but not quite the same.
This is my 2nd HP 12c. I have a 30 yr old HP 12c that’s still going strong but I needed to have a second. Same everything except for the batteries and battery cover. The older one uses 3 button type LR44 alkaline batteries. The newer HP 12c uses 2 CR 2032 lithium batteries. My issue is that the newer HP model uses a battery cover that screws on using a small phillips type screw. To remove the screw you need to have a special phillips screwdriver. The older models had a clip on cover with no screws.

    OK
It has the same keys and functions as the original HP 12C but the case it comes in, is horrible. The old one had better quality; specifically with the material that is used. They also added a business card viewer/holder to the front of the case which I don’t care for. All in all – it’s a great calculator. I just wished they hadn’t skimped on the leather case.

    Failure to deliver my order
I ordered the product due to Walmart’s price. I have pwned the product before ans know it to be an excellent tool. Unfortunately after waiting for months the product has yet to be delivered. This is the first time Walmart has failed me. They will not give me an explanation for the failed delivery. Thus all one star ratings

walmart and the seller of the product SUCKS
the seller of this product was the complete crap, and walmart did not stand up to do the right thing, I never received the product, the seller never shipped and walmart charged my account twice for it, this has caused me nothing but trouble, it went weeks and there was never any shipping updates and I never could get any information, so this is the worst seller ever and walmart is a complete failure, I would like to sue both of them for all my time and effort that I had to put into nothing and to get nothing out of all of it, as you read this review I am sure that you will do nothing about it, but FYI all you people suck and I hope your business fails because customers should never be treated this poorly.

    Piece of junk
I only had a few days and it froze on an entry. I couldn’t continue with the math problem, I could clear it or turn it off. I am going to return it.
